ABOUT THE STUDY

If your family has been affected by hereditary cancer, you may qualify to take part in PreCharge, a nationwide study funded by the National Cancer Institute. We would like your help in testing an online program designed to help individuals whose families have been affected by hereditary cancer improve their mental and emotional well-being. There is no cost to you and you will be paid for your time. You may also find that taking part in this study is interesting and helpful to you.

By joining the study, you will:

  • Be asked to answer questions online or over text in a brief screener to see if you are eligible. If you are eligible, you’ll receive an email inviting you to complete a more in-depth online survey.
  • Receive daily messages by text for 1 month.
  • Complete as many online activities as you would like for 1 month.
  • Complete a final online survey after 1 month of using the program. In that survey, we’ll ask you how you’re doing and for your feedback on the daily messages and activities. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete.
  • Be part of research to create programs to help others whose families have been affected by hereditary cancer.

FAQ

What is the purpose of this study?

The purpose of this research is to get feedback on PreCharge, which is an online program for people whose families have been affected by hereditary cancer. Your feedback will help us make improvements to the program so that, in the future, others will find it helpful and want to use it.

Will I have to pay to take part in the study?

No. If you qualify and choose to participate in this research, you will not have to pay any money. In addition, you will be paid for your time in Amazon.com or Walmart.com gift cards. (restrictions apply, see amazon.com/gc-legal)

Will I have to go anywhere to be a part of the study?

No, all study activities are online. No travel is required. You can do all parts of the study on any phone, laptop, or other Internet-enabled device at times that are convenient to you.

How much time will it take to be a part of this study?

You can use the online program as much or as little as you’d like over the next month and you will receive daily text messages from the program. We will ask you to complete 1 brief screening survey and 2 more in-depth surveys over a 1-month period. The first survey will take less than 3 minutes to complete. The other 2 surveys will take about 10 minutes to complete. Additionally, over the next month, we’ll occasionally send you a question or 2 by text message. It will only take a minute to respond to those questions.

What if I join, but change my mind?

If you change your mind, you can drop out at any time. It’s up to you whether or not you take part in this study.
